Zabriskie Point
This album brings together an unmissable collection of music created by Pink Floyd for Michelangelo Antonioni’s infamous 1970 film Zabriskie Point. The band’s contributions to the soundtrack were recorded in November and December 1969, after the release of Ummagumma.Â
Whilst Pink Floyd were initially commissioned to produce the entire soundtrack, Antonioni eventually used only three Floyd numbers in his film. This meant that the discarded material was never given the audience it deserved at the time, particularly as the early Gilmour era of the band was such a formative time in the history of Pink Floyd.
Most notably, this release includes The Violent Sequence, a song written by Richard Wright that was eventually reworked into the track Us and Them, which was released on Pink Floyd’s iconic The Dark Side of the Moon album in 1973.
Pink Floyd’s creations for Zabriskie Point provide a captivating insight into the sound of the band during a pivotal point in their artistic development, and offer an intriguing opportunity to explore some of their lesser-known compositions.
