year of the slug
âIâm not a McDonaldâs hamburger,â says Rose, an artist who has become known for being somewhat of an impish indie rebel, championing independent music and creative reinvention. âIâm just trying to make music diverse enough that AI canât reproduce it.â Roseâs albums blend psychobilly, pop, shoegaze, alt-country, folk, electronic and experimental. They infuse satire, perspective-hopping, film-inspired narrative and an array of storytelling devices that transport listeners straight into Roseâs self-described âweird buffetâ of a mind. On year of the slug, there is no pretence, no bells or whistles, no heavy production. âSometimes itâs nice to have a pearl before itâs polished,â Rose says. Recorded in Garageband from a phone, slug offers quality songs in their rawest form, straight to the listener, no middleman. Rose will tour year of the slug in a series of âEvening Withâ solo performances in exclusively independent venues carefully chosen to avoid large service fees. âThese places are the working class of the touring industry. Theyâre the ones hit hardest by the corporations hoarding all the money at the top and yet they still find a way to keep their doors open. I cut my teeth in these small clubs. Iâm really grateful for them.âÂ
