Valfiskens buk
Valfiskens buk (Belly of the Whale) is the debut LP of up-and-coming 70’s-style hard rock power trio Malgomaj from Umea, Sweden. Recorded live in studio, the album gives justice to Malgomaj’s untamed live performances, with floral jams and explosive grooves. Although the obvious role models are Black Sabbath and Deep Purple, Malgomaj also finds inspiration in the Swedish progg movement. With elaborate Swedish lyrics, Valfiskens buk visits underexplored corners of the heavy metal genre. Malgomaj is a Swedish hard rock power trio based in Umeå, with roots in Österbotten and southern Swedish Laponia.
Formed in 2022, Malgomaj have made a long line of live performances at DIY-scenes, garages and festivals, hence bringing a wild and unruly live sound when they entered Ostron Studion in Gothenburg in the summer of 2024. Through heavy riffs, explosive jams, blues merged with Swedish folk music and paisley-patterned space adventures, Malgomaj summons the spirit of early 70’s heavy metal and revitalizes it with elaborate lyrics in Swedish. With a well-balanced mix of glam and melancholy the songs treat topics like depression and desperation, everyday life in rural northern Sweden, biblical sea monsters, 17th century painting and environmental destruction. Malgomaj consists of lead vocalist and drummer Isak Neovius Parkman, guitarist Daniel Nilsson and bassist Emil Österlund.
