Upstairs In My Basement

Upstairs In My Basement

Upstairs in My Basement is the latest 12” from Jesse Futerman – a four-song suite built on hazy samples and longform gestures. Written after a hiatus from music, it’s a gentle return to form for the MontrĂ©al producer, seamlessly threading delicate introspection and gooey radiance. The release nods to his early series of ‘basement’ releases, and a rekindling of the instincts that first got him into making music.

“I had walked away from music for over two years.. said I no longer made it. This record was made when I was in a depression, it was a warm campfire that helped keep me warm when I was in that zone.

The record also rekindled my love for sampling, it reminded me of the teenage version of myself who started sampling at 15. I used to have a series of records dubbed 'superbasement', 'exquisite basement' and this record is a spiritual successor to those. Taking lessons I learned while making hiphop but also lessons I learned while making house.”
