The Studio Albums 1970 - 1977
Every T. Rex album from T. Rex to Dandy In The Underworld in a Super Deluxe set with bonus standalone singles (on CD only) and full lyrics.Â
Having recorded as Tyrannosaurus Rex since the mid-1960s, frontman, lyricist, poet and guitarist Marc Bolan entered the new decade with a new sound, a new band and a new, foreshortened name â âT. Rexâ. In the process, he became Britainâs first new superstar of the seventies, embarking upon a breathtaking run of hit singles and studio albums that demonstrated his restless muse and showcased constant genre-defying creativity.
1970âs T. Rex came in the wake of the chart success of âRide A White Swanâ (included as a bonus track) and formed a sonic bridge between the Tyrannosaurus Rex sound and a new electric glam that would bring him superstardom. The follow up, 1971âs all-time classic Electric Warrior followed, a classics-packed collection of songs that included âLifeâs A Gasâ, âJeepsterâ, âGet It Onâ and âCosmic Dancerâ. Also included in this set is the 1971 standalone No. 1 âHot Loveâ.
1972âs The Slider was released at the peak of T. Rex mania (âT.Rexstasyâ!) and delivered two UK No. 1 singles in the form of âTelegram Samâ and âMetal Guruâ, while 1973âs Tanx pushed all the glam faders into the red on one of the most exciting rock albums of the decade. As bonus tracks on the setâs Tanx disc are the megahits â20th Century Boyâ, âChildren Of The Revolutionâ and âSolid Gold, Easy Actionâ.
1974âs Zinc Alloy saw Bolanâs interest on the move, into a frenetic, more electric-soul glam sound with the introduction of R&B influences including funky keyboards and the gospel- sounding âCosmic Choirâ. Bonus tracks here are âThe Grooverâ and âTruck On (Tyke)â. Moving on again, 1975âs Bolanâs Zip Gun caught the prevailing zeitgeist, channelling Bolanâs sound at times with a proto=Punk back-to-basics approach.
1976âs gorgeous Futuristic Dragon was a late T. Rex classic, a mature and confident collection of timeless hooks and effortless melodies including the hit single âNew York Cityâ â also included are the standalone singles âLondon Boysâ and âLaser Loveâ. Finally, on further chart singles like âI Love To Boogieâ and âLight Of Loveâ the last studio album before Bolanâs untimely death, 1977âs Dandy In The Underworld still stands as a reminder of a huge talent the music world lost way too soon â also includes Marcâs last single âCelebrate Summerâ.
8LP - All 8 albums in the collection come housed in a cardboard outer box, and all have been reproduced with original sleeves and inner bags including lyrics. Bolanâs Zip Gun and Dandy In The Underworld each feature with their original restored die-cut sleeves. Each album comes pressed on different coloured half-black, half-coloured vinyl.Â
