The record follows his 2024 release Cheer Up, which was highly praised by the press and reached number two on the Independent Charts. The Midnight Ache was created in collaboration with producer Brian Casey at Wavefield Recordings and also features vocal contributions from Blek’s wife. The cover artwork showcases a collage of pressed flowers from their own garden. The first single, "747", deals with themes of farewell, the end of long-term relationships, and the traces left by lost love - inspired by an early flight to Europe during a 2023 tour. Blek describes the album as a spontaneous creation that grew out of creatively exploring a new studio environment.
