The Gold is inspired by the true story and theories of the 1983 Brink’s-Mat robbery, which saw the theft of ÂŁ26 million worth of gold bullion, and the decades-long chain of events that followed. First aired in February 2023, the first series of The Gold garnered 8.7 million viewers for the first episode and was nominated for a BAFTA. Series Two is inspired by theories around what happened to the other half of the gold. Â
