They evolved from K.U.K.L (following their dissatisfaction with the ideals of many major labels), who released several singles through the fiercely independent British label Crass Records in the early 1980s. Fronted by Bjork and Einar Orn Benediktsson, they gained international renown for the unique sound they cultivated, garnering fans such as luminary John Peel, achieving unprecedented success for for an Icelandic band at the time and influencing the country’s musical scene dramatically. The album was supported by four singles: the aptly titled Hit which reached number 1 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart in the US and number 17 on the UK Singles Chart, Walkabout, Vitamin and Leash Called Love which went number 1 on the US Dance chart.
