Starfield (Original Soundtrack)
Bethesda Game Studios and Laced Records have teamed up to bring the music of Starfield to deluxe vinyl. Music plays a crucial role in the player's journey throughout all Bethesda Game Studios titles, serving as a constant companion on their adventure.
Composer Inon Zur's collaboration with the studio dates back to 2008 with the release of Fallout 3. For the Starfield score, Zur aimed to capture both the vastness of space and humanity's curiosity-driven pursuit to explore the unknown. This led to a unique blend of traditional and non-traditional orchestral and electronic elements, creating an immersive auditory experience.
Throughout the development process, the team drew inspiration from a diverse range of sources, including legendary sci-fi composers like John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith, as well as classical composers such as Debussy, Ravel, and Prokofiev. They also looked to Vangelis' iconic synth work and the experimental sounds of EinstĂĽrzende Neubauten and John Cage.
The orchestral cues in Starfield were recorded by the Budapest Film Orchestra and feature different instrumental sections that evoke various aspects of space. From brisk woodwind sequences symbolizing particles to strings mimicking interstellar energy waves and brass sections creating a melodic beacon across the galaxy, the orchestral pieces transport listeners to the depths of space.
Additionally, the electronic-driven cues in the soundtrack maintain a sense of grandeur through weighty synth pads, cryptic patterns, and unique percussive elements. The soundtrack also features vocals by Aeralie Brighton (DEATHLOOP, Ori series), adding another layer of depth to the musical journey of Starfield.
