Sea Horse
This is the first analogue release of an extremely rare live album by the legendary tenor saxophonist Akira Miyazawa (1927-2000), one of the most important figures in Japanese jazz. Double commentary by Dr Jazz Osamu Uchida and leading jazz journalist Noriyoshi Koyama (written in 2002). Recorded live in Hamamatsu in December 1989. The sound of the instruments is recorded so clearly that it could be mistaken for a studio recording. The members are Masahiko Kozu (drums), who made his debut with the Miyazawa Band and played with Ornette Coleman and Sarah Vaughan, and Hamamatsu-based musicians Harumi Takeuchi (piano) and Shunsuke Takeuchi (bass), who have performed at various venues. The band performs a variety of tunes, including "Green Dolphin Street" starting with a sax solo, Ellington's famous song "In a Sentimental Mood", the original song "Baby Seahorse" and "If Ever I Wood Leave You" from the musical "Camelot". The superb tenor saxophone tone is heard in all of the tunes.
