Enigmatic post-punk stalwarts Cult Figures released two classic singles on Swell Map's Rather Records in 1979 and 1980. Now they are back with their fourth album Reports of People, marking their debut for Precious Recordings of London.
It’s urgent, it’s visceral, it’s abrasive – and yes, it has tunes. Shakespeare might have called it a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
But it’s so much more. Music Of Fear will tickle anyone who ever entertained thoughts of killing their boss, while The Abductee is a tale of alien abduction – or perhaps it’s about losing your afternoon in aWetherspoon’s.
Death Of A Thousand Cuts is when your partner chooses to leave you but wants to tape your albums first. Scum charts the diverging paths of childhood friends and features a coda straight outta Mott The Hoople.
