Purpur

Purpur

The experimental Berlin trio ZAHN returns with their most electrifying work to date. A lush fusion of heaviness, electronica, and hallucinatory colors, PURPUR exudes tension and danger, pulsating with depth and density. Known for their intense, driving sound that reflects the relentless march of a world on the brink, the trio ZAHN – Chris Breuer, Nic Stockmann, and Felix Gebhard – deepen their sonic exploration with an album that is simultaneously more electronic and more rock-oriented than their acclaimed predecessors. PURPUR takes its cue from the album's vibrant cover art – an explosion of grapes and berries that mirrors its lush, colorful sound. The album blends powerful genres into something fresh and electrifying: heavy foundations collide with rich electronic textures, creating layers of color, complexity, and a touch of hallucinatory sweetness. Recorded once again in Gyhum with sound engineer Peter Voigtmann (ex-The Ocean, Death By Gong, Heads.), Purpur follows in the footsteps of the band's previous works, but also marks a bold leap forward. Guest contributions from Fabian Bremer (Radare, AUA) and Kjetil Nernes (Ârabrot) deepen the album's sense of unease and fascination, while Magnus Lindberg (Cult of Luna) lends the album the depth of a subterranean pulse with his mixing and mastering – crisp, heavy, and vibrant with microscopic detail. Whereas Adria offered a lively escape through krautrock, dark jazz, noise rock, and post-punk, Purpur draws listeners into a denser, more complex, and tightly woven soundscape. The band's third album is an intoxicating whirl of synthetic pulse and physical heaviness – an album that feels more fermented than composed.
