Necko II
Sydneysiders Necko deliver a rush of nostalgia : dynamic classic rock that combines pulsating grooves, wailing choruses and elaborate instrumental breakdowns reminiscent of British blues-rock linchpins circa late â60s to early â70s. The first record, an E.P, written and recorded over the course of 2021 and2022 was ideated and created by frontman Alek Necko and producer trio DEL. Once the tracks were handed over to Al Sutton of Rustbelt Studios (Greta Van Fleet) for mixing, the band started rehearsals and began performing as Necko in December of 2022, quickly garnering attention with galvanic performances that displayed advanced musical symbiosis. This is exemplified the invitation to support The Radiators on their national tour, only 4 months into their journey. Alek reflects, âWe are glad to see this level of understanding for what Necko is and what we are trying to achieve â especially so early. Hopefully this record drives that home a little bit more. Weâre aware of what weâre doing; of the influences.â Contrast and balance are the young trioâs modus operandi, and Alek (vocals, guitar), Reno (drums) and Alex (bass, keys) deliver that in spades. Selling out shows in their hometown within their first three months of playing live set the group up for their debut release: Page-esque riffed âWicked Womanâ, which arrived mid-February 2023. Starkly contrasted numbers âYou Donât Gotta Be Alone Anymoreâ and âAnimalâ followed shortly thereafter, displaying a diversification in retro-rock themes to tease their eponymous debut EP, which became available on June 2, 2023. During supporting slots for Australian rock legends The Radiators, theyâd get noticed and invited to play Thredbo Blues Festival â24 â securing their name on the bill for the following year before they even plugged in for their final set. In 2024 Necko recorded 6 new tracks for their second E.P at The Grove in New South Wales with two-time GRAMMY-winning producer Adrian Bushby (Foo Fighters, Muse), and mixing duties once again went to trusted Al Sutton. On tracks such as lead single âYouâve Got What I Wantâ and âSinnerâ, the boys lean into the hooky, infectious nature of their songwriting, that contrast with heavy, psychedelic elements in âBathed in Gloryâ and âBeggar on a Throne of Gold.â The epic closer âWhat Remainsâ an intensified extension to the heartbreak of the first EPâs closer, âYou Donât Gotta Be Alone Anymoreâ. 2025 has been a relentless pursuit for the Sydney trio, playing across Australia on an almost weekly basis to spread the word, gaining a committed following in the process.
