Nachts in der City - live
Born in Goisern, Upper Austria, in 1950, Wilfried, whose real name is Wilfried Scheutz, founded his first beat band, The Provos, in 1964. Five years later, he left the tranquil province and moved to Graz to begin his studies. At the same time, he worked on his musical career, playing bass and guitar in several bands and singing on the last single "Song/Mexican Desert" by the Graz hard rock band Hide & Seek in 1972. A year later, Wilfried had his first No. 1 hit in the Austrian charts with his English-language debut single "Mary, Oh Mary." With "Ziwui, ziwui," he temporarily switched to singing in dialect and established himself as an early representative of Austropop. His rock interpretation of the "Kufsteinlied" from 1981 can be considered an early example of "new folk music." From 1978 to mid-1979, he was the singer of Austrian pop rock band Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung (EAV). He can be heard on their debut album and also toured with the band.
