Mud In Your Eye / I've Been Trying
Continuing the sensational âMod Classicsâ series on Countdown Records, comes this essential Fleur De Lys 7â.
In 1966, after two spectacular singles for Andrew Loog Oldhamâs Immediate label, Fleur De Lys signed to Frank Fenterâs production company, Fenter-Rose. Fenter, as head of Atlantic Records UK office, allied the band with Atlanticâs distributor Polydor.
Their Polydor debut was an astounding 45 led by âMud In Your Eyeâ, which was backed by a cover of The Impressions âIâve Been Tryingâ. The A-side is a coruscating Who-influenced breakbeat masterpiece that should be in everyoneâs collection. The flip takes the Curtis Mayfield ballad at a funereal pace, adds an almost trip-hop beat and gives us one of very best cover versions of the original mod era.
This 300-copies, limited edition 7â on Countdown Mod Classics. Pressed on cool white vinyl, with monochrome labels and housebag.
