Marc Riley Sessions Volume 5
Released via Clue Records, The Wedding Present return with the fifth volume in their critically-acclaimed series of Marc Riley Sessions.
First launching in 2016, these sessions have been celebrated by longtime fans and new listeners alike for their immediacy, uniquely capturing The Wedding Presentâs trademark urgency and spontaneity. While reaffirming the bandâs status as one of indie rockâs most beloved and consistent acts, the Marc Riley Sessions serve as a fascinating chronicle of The Wedding Presentâs continued evolution.
âThis fifth volume in our series of live recordings made for Marc Rileyâs BBC Radio programme is particularly interesting because â with sessions from 2019 and 2023 â it straddles not only the COVID pandemic but also our 24 Songs series. For the latter we re-enacted the âtwelve singles in a yearâ idea that The Wedding Present had first used in 1992 for the Hit Parade. So, on this record, you can hear both early versions of songs that went on to be released as singles, together with later versions of songs that had already been released! Itâs also notable for hearing us have a go at two cover versions â Magazineâs âA Song From Under The Floorboardsâ and Lowâs âCanadaâ â together with a version of our own âSports Carâ where I relinquish control over the lead vocal for once.â - David Gedge
