Lightreft.jp MONOLIT – Modular MIDI Computer Controller
Lightreft’s MONOLIT is a sleek and powerful modular MIDI computer, handcrafted in Japan and machined from a single piece of aluminium. More than a controller, it’s a reprogrammable, reconfigurable performance tool designed for artists who need deep MIDI control without sacrificing workflow or aesthetics.
Inspired by the ethos of devices like Monome and Norns, MONOLIT offers a blank canvas for MIDI expression. Its minimalist design houses eight precision sliders, thirteen tactile buttons, and a crisp 128×64 monochrome display — all giving you fast access to eight banks of 64 custom controls per preset.
Where most MIDI devices stop at CC messages, MONOLIT goes further. Its four main modes unlock extended functionality:
-
CC Mode: Classic parameter control with optional time lag for smooth automation.
-
Notes Mode: Turns sliders into melodic triggers with adjustable pitch spacing and velocity control.
-
LFO Mode: Generates syncable modulation signals for dynamic automation.
-
Motion Mode: Records slider movements and replays them in loops for expressive, hands-free control.
The unit’s connectivity supports modern studios:
-
USB-C connects to DAWs or synths.
-
TRS MIDI Out for hardware integration.
-
USB-A In allows connection of controllers, keyboards, even Monome Grids or gamepads.
It’s also a capable MIDI processor, with split modes, arpeggiators, key-follow behaviours, and more. A recent web-based editor makes setup and preset management intuitive, while ongoing firmware updates continue to expand its capabilities.
Built by Sasha DZA and the Light Reft team in Japan, every unit is made with care and intent. MONOLIT is for those who see their studio as an instrument — not just a setup.
