Jazz In The Garden
In a four decade career that includes membership of jazz fusion giants Return to Forever, bassist Stanley Clarke - one of the most prominent voices in electric jazz- had seemingly covered every possible corner of the jazz landscape. However he has never led a straightahead acoustic trio.
This superb new CD is just that and sees Clarke joined by two brilliant collaborators at the top of their respective games: pianist Hiromi Uehara and drummer Lenny White. Hiromi is already one of the most exciting pianists on contemporary jazz scene with five Telarc CDs to her name and Lenny White is of course Clarke's rhythm section colleague from Return To Forever.
The CD itself is a sure fire winner mixing subtle originals by Clarke and Hiromi with, amongst others, intriguing takes on standards from the pens of Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Joe Henderson.
