Instrumentals Volume 1

Instrumentals Volume 1

D/troit are back, and if you like your funk as raw as paint stripper, this is the crew for you! Craig Charles. Necessity is the mother of invention. D/troit have always make instrumentals and have long toyed with the idea of an album in this vein. With singer Toke Bo's temporary relocation to Athens, the time was right. The album reflects an open and explanatory approach, blending their signature retro soul sound with influences old and new. The new recordings maintain D/troit's tight grooves while leaning into something altogether more playful and eclectic. At times it sounds like the exotica-tinged soundtrack for a 70s heist movie. Elsewhere they sound equal parts twilit bar and Addams-family party, while "Hernandez" invokes a Morricone-style stand-off. The one non-instrumental features a "guest" appearance by D/troit singer Toke Bo on a Meters/James Brown-esque funky banger - raw, ready and dance-inducing.
