If This Is It
If This Is It is the third album from Armand Jakobsson AKA DJ Seinfeld. Following on from his 2021 album Mirrors which hit #3 in the Official Dance Albums Chart, If This Is It is an exploration of letting go, embracing the present, and turning âwhat ifsâ into acceptance.
On soft opener âU Canât Come Homeâ, TS Grayeâs velvety vocal and dusty voicemail floats on swirling synths and keys like a cloud. âQuakinâ teases an intricate clubbier direction, before party-starting Confidence Man collaboration âThe Rightâ takes things straight to the dancefloor with a pop edge. The title track, featuring a poignant verse from spoken word artist Dan Whitlam, transforms from a piano-led poem into a nostalgic house groover.
âTurning The Pageâs rumbling synth drums take things in a heavier direction, while âOf Joyâ lands like a trance track from the early 2000s thanks to ARYâs emotive tone. On âThe Waveâ, just lil compliments the intriguingly paced production, while âIn The Morningâ showcases Moykaâs range. âEverything Uâ builds from a wistful start towards a club focus, before the cinematic âSomething That Iâve Never Knownâ, which features vocals from SG Lewis, coasts over an Italo synth-wave beat. Things simmer to a close with the reflective âOur Motherâs Walkâ, and a stirring, piano-led interpretation of the title track; the latter was inspired by an album playback during a road trip through America with his friends. âWe were taking a breakâ, DJ Seinfeld says of âLake Erie Mixâ, describing the setting as peaceful and tranquil.
In many ways, the message of âIf This Is Itâ is incredibly fitting for right now.
A beacon of hope, light and acceptance in a world that can often feel overwhelming, the album title is both an acknowledgement that some things canât be changed, and an encouragement to enjoy and appreciate life. âIâm really happy and proud of these songs,â DJ Seinfeld says humbly, adding that heâs excited to bring the album to life on stage and see how people translate the open-ended feelings channeled within the album.Â
