Godly Beings

Obituary presents a 55-track, 4-disc set featuring the band's first four full-length studio albums released via Roadrunner Records. These albums helped define the death metal genre and are considered classics to this day.

CD 1 showcases their 1989 debut album Slowly We Rot, originally released via Roadrunner imprint RC Records. CD 2 features the classic follow-up Cause of Death, originally released in 1990. The third disc includes the band's 1992 breakthrough full-length The End Complete, while CD 4 highlights the more experimental 1994 release World Demise.

Formed in 1984 in Tampa, Florida, under the name Executioner, Obituary created a style characterized by dense groove-based detuned riffs and the inhuman howl of frontman John Tardy. Inspired by local heroes like Nasty Savage and Savatage, as well as the primitive approach of Hellhammer/Celtic Frost, the band made an instant impact on the global metal scene.

Their debut album Slowly We Rot pushed the death metal envelope further with brutal vocal approaches and intense music. The follow-up Cause of Death raised the bar with superior production, iconic artwork, and a dark atmosphere permeating tracks like "Chopped In Half" and "Turned Inside Out."

After touring internationally, Obituary released The End Complete in 1992, selling over 100,000 copies in the US alone. By the time of World Demise in 1994, the band was experimenting with different topics and adding an industrial tinge to their sound.

This release includes liner notes from writer David Gehlke, author of the official biography of Obituary. The CDs are housed in a sturdy slipcase box, with replicated jewel case versions of the original pressings (including bonus tracks) and four reproduction postcards featuring classic band images.
