Aus keiner meiner Brücken die in Asche liegen ist je ein Phönix emporgestiegen

A phoenix has never risen from any of my bridges that lie in ashes is the album that marks the rebirth of Max Gruber as he transitions from solo artist Drangsal to the band Drangsal. Over the past ten years, Gruber has released albums such as ‘Harieschaim’, ‘Zores’, and ‘Exit Strategy’, with the latter reaching number 6 on the album charts in 2021.

After experiencing a breakdown, Gruber took a new direction with Drangsal, enlisting fellow musicians Lukas Korn and Marvin Holley to form a three-piece band. Together, they recorded a seventeen-part album, which will be released in June 2025 under the title ‘From none of my bridges that lie in ashes has a phoenix ever risen’.

The new album represents a radical change in Drangsal's sound, featuring acoustic guitars, piano, organ, and a variety of other instruments. Gruber's vocals, influenced by classical training, explore themes of self-alienation, surrender, and self-discovery in both German and English.

Throughout the album, Gruber reflects on his past, searching for inner peace and new versions of himself. The track ‘Rosa’, featuring actor Rosa Lembeck's monologue, captures the essence of the album: ‘You sing and it becomes’.
