For fans of the legendary band Kraan, this is nothing short of a small sensation: a long-lost live recording from 1980 has unexpectedly resurfaced. Recorded at Bremen’s iconic club Aladin, this concert captures the band during one of their most exciting creative periods – a fascinating time capsule brimming with musical energy and joy of playing. The 2LP is released for the first time on 36Music as part of Record Store Day! It’s hard to believe that this concert remained undiscovered for decades – which makes the rediscovery of the “Aladin Tapes” all the more thrilling. Featuring the legendary lineup of Hellmut Hattler (bass), Peter Wolbrandt (guitar), Udo Dahmen (drums), and Ingo Bischof (keyboards), Kraan created numerous electrifying live recordings in 1979 and 1980, later immortalized on the album Tournee. Yet no one knew that additional recordings from this era still existed – until devoted Kraan fans from Bremen drew Hellmut Hattler’s attention to this remarkable find. With a total running time of 80 minutes and 13 tracks, Aladin Tapes not only delivers gripping live interpretations from that period, but also includes previously unreleased pieces such as “She’s Gone” and “Berg und Tal.” These tracks offer a unique glimpse into the band’s experimental spirit and musical power on stage. Carefully restored with great attention to detail, the recordings vividly convey Kraan’s infectious live atmosphere. The musicians’ sheer joy of playing is palpable in every note – a true sonic experience that captures the energy and magic of a Kraan concert.
