Act I
Tauro is the collaborative project led by Toronto-based artist Cynthia Tauro, developed in close creative partnership with Brendan Canning of Broken Social Scene. What began as informal living-room writing sessions grew organically into a focused body of work built on trust, shared musical language, and a deliberate avoidance of overthinking “next steps.” The project is intentionally streamlined, with decisions staying in the room and the music leading the process.
Act One blends emotionally direct pop songwriting with jazz- informed harmony, synth-driven textures, and understated rhythmic experimentation. Drawing influence from artists like Air, Sade, Carole King, and Tracey Thorn, the songs balance intimacy with forward motion, shaped by recent personal upheavals and a shared interest in following the natural direction of each song rather than forcing a predetermined sound. Production is song-led and exploratory, allowing texture and arrangement to emerge intuitively.
With contributions from trusted collaborators including Thom D’Arcy, Kintaro Akiyama, Moose (Spencer Muscio), and Josh Trager, the record carries strong creative pedigree while remaining centered on Cynthia’s voice and perspective. Early tastemaker support from outlets such as KEXP, KCRW, and CBC Radio Canada signals discovery potential, positioning Tauro as a modern, songwriter-driven project with long- term development upside rather than a one-off collaboration.
