4 Stages of Sleep
Josi Miller's debut album 4 Stages of Sleep is a journey through dream worlds, marked by fear, panic, but also healing. Born out of drug-fueled dreams, the LP combines breakbeat, pop, and electronica with shimmering vocals, analog synths, and soul samples. Musically inspired by Jamie xx, Overmono and Soap&Skin, the album is divided into four stages of sleep, alternating between melancholy, rave and surreal soundscapes. It is powerful and fragile, club-ready and cerebral, beautifully melodic and daring at the same time.
Josi Miller from Leipzig-Connewitz gained her first DJ experience in the East German subculture while studying at the Bauhaus University in Weimar. In 2017, she moved to Berlin, having long been a protagonist of the Homegirls podcast. She accompanied Trettmann for years as a tour DJ and is constantly on the road solo—from Cape Town to London, from about:blank to the Institut für Zukunft, from MELT to Fusion. Together with KLAN musician Stefan Heinrich, Josi founded the electro-pop duo Import Export, organized countless workshops for Flinta*, and supervised productions for artist friends such as Jolle and Zugezogen Maskulin. For about two years, Josi has been hosting the ARTE format “Chat with a DJ,” in which she regularly welcomes artists such as Marlon Hoffstadt, Anja Schneider, and Acid Pauli. In the fall of 2023, during a creative camp in France, Josi decides to tackle a solo album. The first fragments emerge in a circle of trusted musicians such as Fatoni, Aywing, Lambert, Torky Tork, and BEACHPEOPLE. In 2024, as part of a support program, Josi moves to the Uckermark region for several weeks to live with post-punk icon Gudrun Gut, where her project takes shape. At the end of an intensive exploration of her own psyche and countless hours spent between synthesizers and beat software, the result is 4 Stages Of Sleep - a debut album that fuses breakbeat, pop, and electronica.
